COLOMBO, May 19 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe has ordered the resumption of the "Suraksha" student insurance program, which was suspended due to economic challenges, the President's Media Division (PMD) said on Sunday.

Starting from the first week of June, all school students across the country will once again be able to benefit from this insurance scheme, according to the PMD.

The PMD said the government recently approved a joint memorandum presented by the president who is also the minister of finance, economic stabilization and national policy with education minister.

"Suraksha" student insurance, originally implemented in 2017, aims to ensure continuous education for students affected by health issues and to increase school attendance by safeguarding student safety. Enditem
