BUENOS AIRES, May 20 (Xinhua) -- Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez has been named in Argentina's squad for the Copa America in the United States despite spending the past month recovering from groin surgery.

Fernandez has not played since he was substituted off in Chelsea's 5-0 Premier League loss to Arsenal at Emirates stadium on April 23.

But he has returned to training ahead of schedule and is expected to be fully fit for Argentina's Copa America opener against Canada in Atlanta, Georgia, on June 21.

As expected, the Albiceleste squad is led by eight-time Ballon d'Or winner Lionel Messi and also includes Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister, Atletico Madrid enforcer Rodrigo De Paul and Benfica winger Angel Di Maria.

But there was no place for forward Paulo Dybala, who was overlooked despite his 16 goals and 10 assists in 38 games for Roma this season.

Following the duel with Canada, Argentina will face Chile before ending the Copa America group stage with a clash against Peru.

The reigning Copa America and World Cup champions will finalize their preparations for the tournament with friendlies against Ecuador on June 9 and Guatemala five days later.
