ISLAMABAD, May 23 (Xinhua) -- The spiking risk of glacial melting-caused floods in the northern region of Pakistan will be mitigated through a Glacial Lake Outburst Floods project, said Romina Khurshid Alam, coordinator to the Pakistani prime minister on climate change and environmental coordination.

The coordinator unveiled the project at a high-level meeting with officials from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), the Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination said in a statement on Wednesday.

Both sides agreed to work together on this project and explore funding avenues, the statement said.

They also reaffirmed their commitments to closely collaborate on heat waves, natural disasters and upcoming floods in the country, it said.

It was also decided to formulate a joint strategy to save the wildlife vulnerable species during the upcoming floods, according to the statement. Enditem
