TOKYO -- Japan's real wages fell 2.2 percent in fiscal 2023 from the previous year, logging the sharpest drop in nine years, as inflation outpaced pay increases, the government said Thursday.

The inflation-adjusted wages declined for the second straight year following a 1.8 percent decrease in fiscal 2022, marking the largest drop since fiscal 2014 when real wages fell by 2.9 percent due to a consumption tax hike, according to the revised data released by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare. BANGKOK -- Thailand's auto production continued to drop in April due to long holidays and weaker demand in the domestic market, data from the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) showed on Thursday.

Thai auto manufacturers produced 104,667 vehicles in April, down 11.02 percent from a year earlier and slowing from a 23.08 percent plunge in March, owing to a major fall in the output of pickup trucks and internal combustion engine passenger cars, according to the FTI.
