SAN JOSE, May 23 (Xinhua) -- Former Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas has announced his retirement from Costa Rica's national team after an international career spanning 16 years.

The 37-year-old confirmed his decision in a short video posted on social media on Thursday.

"I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the memories we have accumulated. Together we have made history, facing the best players in the world and raising the name of Costa Rica to the highest level," Navas said.

Navas earned 114 Costa Rica caps from 2008 to 2024 and was a part of the Central American team's World Cup campaigns in 2014, 2018 and 2022.

Earlier this month, Navas also announced that he would be leaving Paris Saint-German in June.

"I am deeply grateful for having had the chance to represent Costa Rica. It's difficult to assimilate because an important part of my life has come to end." Enditem
