BEIRUT, May 25 (Xinhua) -- The Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants said on Saturday that the ruling by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ordering Israel to immediately stop its military operations in Rafah constitutes "an important opportunity to put an end to the occupation's attacks and displacement policies."

The ministry said the decision also constitutes an opportunity to reopen the Rafah crossing in the Gaza Strip for aid delivery and to "launch a serious and effective political path that pushes towards a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue based on the two-state solution."

The ministry called on the international community and the United Nations to compel Israel to implement the ICJ's decision and allow international committees to investigate its practices and violations.

The ICJ issued a decision on Friday demanding that Israel immediately stop its military attacks and hostilities in the southern Gazan city of Rafah. However, the Israeli army continues to bomb the enclave, including Rafah.

On Jan. 26, the court ordered Israel to take all measures within its power to prevent genocide, to ensure that its military does not commit genocide, to halt incitement against Palestinians as a group, to preserve evidence, and to take immediate measures to ensure humanitarian aid. However, Israel remained defiant over the order and persisted in its offensive against Gaza. Enditem
