YANGON, May 26 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar aims to plant over 22.3 million trees on 22,000 acres of land nationwide during this rainy season which typically spans from June to October, the state-run media Myanmar Radio and Television (MRTV) reported on Sunday.

In April and May this year, Myanmar recorded its highest temperatures.

Additionally, Myanmar has a high consumption of wood and fuel among Asian countries, with over 70 percent of the population relying on wood and charcoal.

This reliance poses challenges to the sustainable management of forest resources, environmental conservation and efforts to combat climate change. Therefore, the initiative to plant over 22.3 million trees this rainy season is aimed at addressing these issues, the report said. Enditem
