SEOUL, May 28 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's retail sale logged a double-digit growth for the third straight month due to solid online demand for food and daily necessities, government data showed Tuesday.

The combined revenue among major offline and online retailers expanded 10.8 percent in April from a year earlier, after going up 13.7 percent in February and 10.9 percent in March, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

Revenue for online retailers advanced 22.2 percent last month, maintaining a double-digit expansion for the eighth consecutive month.

Sales by offline retailers reduced 0.2 percent in April on a yearly basis, marking the first fall in three months.

Food online sales soared 28.1 percent, while online sales of daily necessities, home appliances and other services such as travel and cultural performance increased in double figures.

Food sale in offline stores rose 1.7 percent, but offline demand for home appliances, clothes, sports items and daily necessities decreased last month.

Revenue for convenience stores gained 5.9 percent, but sales in discount outlets and department stores diminished in single digits. Enditem
