ULAN BATOR, June 1 (Xinhua) -- The International Children's Day was celebrated across Mongolia on Saturday.
A variety of activities for children, including sports contests, cultural concerts, and television programs on the protection of children's rights and interests, were organized to mark the occasion.
"It's nice to get gifts and have fun on the children's day. I want all children to be happy and healthy with their parents every day," Bilguun Uulensolongo, an eight-year-old girl from Ulan Bator, told Xinhua.
People under the age of 18 account for 36.3 percent of Mongolia's 3.5 million population by the end of 2023, according to the National Statistical Office.
There were 66,234 newborns in Mongolia in 2023, nearly two percent fewer than the previous year, data by the statistical agency showed.
Mongolia established the Order of Maternal Glory in 1957, which is awarded to mothers who give birth to four or more children and ensures due care for their health, education, physical, spiritual and moral development.
In the days leading up to this year's International Children's Day, 11,294 mothers across Mongolia received the award.
Mongolia began observing the day as an official public holiday in 1996. Enditem
