KABUL, June 3 (Xinhua) -- A historic caravanserai dating back 500 years is being repaired in central Afghanistan's Bamyan province, local media outlet reported Monday.

"This caravanserai will be reconstructed as its original model, and 3.5 million U.S. dollars have been allocated for its construction. It will be completed within three to four years," local media TOLOnews quoted provincial director of information and culture Safiullah Raed as saying.

The ancient site covers an area of 450,000 square meters in Bamyan City, the provincial capital of Bamyan province.

The birthplace of giant Buddhas, Bamyan with its countless historical monuments and beautiful landscape including Band-e-Amir lake is a popular destination for tourists over the past two and half years. Enditem
