NEW DELHI, June 5 (Xinhua) -- At least four trekkers were killed and 13 others rescued after encountering extreme weather during their trekking expedition in the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand, officials said Wednesday.

A trekking team comprising 22 trekkers were on their way to Sahastra Tal in Uttarkashi district, about 170 km northeast of Dehradun, the capital city of Uttarakhand.

"Through the aerial rescue, we have evacuated 13 trapped trekkers and they have been hospitalized in stable conditions," Uttarkashi District Magistrate Meharban Singh Bisht said, adding that four bodies were recovered.

On May 29, the trekking team embarked on the trekking expedition but lost their way due to bad weather. Enditem
