ISLAMABAD -- Pakistan reported the fifth polio case so far this year after a child was paralyzed in Quetta city of southwest Balochistan province and eventually died, the Pakistani Health Ministry said Saturday.

The affected two-year-old child developed an onset of paralysis on April 29 in his legs, the ministry said in a statement, adding that "he became progressively ill with weakness spreading to his arms, and unfortunately passed away in a hospital in the southern port city of Karachi a few weeks later." BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN -- The Legislative Council of Brunei is set to host the 15th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly Caucus Meeting on June 11-12, official media reported on Saturday.

PHNOM PENH -- The representatives of media and think tanks from Southeast Asia have made a joint appeal for combating fake news, saying that it has fueled societal divisions and obstructed informed public discourse.

Kin Phea, director general of the International Relations Institute of Cambodia (IRIC), an arm of the Royal Academy of Cambodia, said on Saturday that the joint call was made during a gathering titled "Third Mekong Journalism Training Workshop on The Role of Media in Combating Disinformation and Fake News in (Artificial Intelligence) AI Context for Regional Peace, Stability, and Prosperity" in Phnom Penh, capital of Cambodia, on June 5-6. NEW DELHI -- Local government in India's northeastern state of Manipur has imposed an indefinite curfew following worsening in law and order situation over the killing of a man, officials said Saturday.

The curfew was imposed across villages in Jiribam district, about 217 km west of Imphal, the capital city of Manipur.

Authorities have also evacuated over 200 people belonging to the Meitei community from their villages in Jiribam and shifted them to a newly set up relief camp. (India-Manipur-Curfew)

ISLAMABAD -- One man was killed and six others were wounded in an explosion in a chemical tanker in Pakistan's southern port city of Karachi on Saturday, police said.
