ACCRA, June 8 (Xinhua) -- Ghana has retained its position as Africa's top gold producer and the 11th biggest producer globally, with four million ounces in 2023, the Ghana Chamber of Mines has said.

During its annual general meeting on Friday, the Chamber said the gold production of the West African country rose from 3.7 million ounces in 2022 to four million ounces in 2023.

The country recorded a significant increase of 70.6 percent in small-scale production, said President of the Chamber Michael Akafia. "However, large-scale gold mining declined from 3.1 million ounces in 2022 to 2.9 million ounces in 2023." Enditem
