YANGON, June 10 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar has designated 39 buildings as ancient buildings for preservation this year, according to the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture on Monday.

These buildings include one in Nay Pyi Taw, eight in Mandalay region, eight in Yangon region, 12 in Ayeyarwady region, and 10 in Rakhine state.

From 1972 to 2023, over 7,000 buildings have been designated as ancient in Myanmar. This year, 39 additional buildings have been designated for preservation, an official from the ministry told Xinhua.

The criteria for defining ancient buildings include being over 100 years old, as well as having historical value, cultural heritage value, and architectural value, the official said.

Preservation efforts aim to ensure the sustainability of these buildings, allowing future generations to appreciate and value their cultural heritage, the official added. Enditem
