YANGON, June 11 (Xinhua) -- Yangon International Airport, Myanmar's primary and busiest airport, saw a surge in foreign travelers in the first five months of 2024, the official television channel MRTV reported on Tuesday.
Over 100,000 foreign travelers entered Myanmar through Yangon airport, an increase of about 1,000 visitors compared to the same period last year, the report said.
Most travelers came from Thailand and China. Many visitors used e-visas, while others entered with business or tourist visas, it said.
Citing a director from the Yangon Region's Directorate of Hotels and Tourism, the report said that Thai tourists visited Yangon, Bago and Kyaiktiyo Pagoda, while Chinese visitors came for business and visited Yangon and Mandalay.
Travelers from Russia and Japan also visited Myanmar through the airport during this period, the report said.
In 2023, a total of 240,000 foreign travelers visited Myanmar through the airport, the report added. Enditem
