KIGALI, June 11 (Xinhua) -- The air cargo service of Rwanda's national carrier, RwandAir Cargo, announced the launch of new flights to Dubai and Djibouti as part of the airline's mission to connect Africa and the world.

The new routes will increase RwandAir's cargo network to seven destinations and support their continued expansion of freighter offerings across Africa and the Middle East, the airline said in a statement Monday.

Yvonne Makolo, the chief executive officer of RwandAir, said "the added destinations will support efficient and reliable connections for business and provide significant opportunities for enhanced trade between Rwanda, the UAE (United Arab Emirates), Djibouti, and the rest of the continent."

She noted that Rwanda as a landlocked nation recognizes the importance of air freight in the country's economic growth across Africa and beyond.

"Our geographic location at the heart of Africa enables us to connect every part of the continent, and we eagerly anticipate expanding this connectivity even further," Makolo said.

The addition of Dubai World Central Airport marked RwandAir's second cargo destination in the United Arab Emirates after Sharjah. The first flight to Dubai departed from Kigali on Monday, while cargo flights to Djibouti will start on June 17, according to the airline.

The new flights will be operating twice a week on Mondays and Wednesdays. Enditem
