SEOUL, June 19 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's weather agency on Wednesday issued a heat wave advisory as temperature shot up nationwide.

The heat wave advisory was issued in many areas across the country, including the capital Seoul and its surrounding Gyeonggi province, according to the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA).

The advisory is issued when the highest sensible temperature is expected to stay above 33 degrees Celsius for more than two consecutive days.

Temperature was forecast to reach as high as 37 degrees Celsius in Goyang, north of Seoul.

The expected daily highs stood at 36 degrees in the southeastern inland city of Daegu, 35 degrees in Seoul and 33 degrees in the southeastern port city of Busan.

The heat wave was expected to grip the central regions of the country for the time being, but thick clouds and rain were forecast to lower temperature in the southern regions and the southern island of Jeju on Thursday. Enditem
