MOSCOW, June 20 (Xinhua) -- The Russian nuclear-powered missile cruiser Admiral Nakhimov will begin sea trials in August, local media reported Thursday.

The ship is currently nearing completion, and tests of the main power plant and other units will begin in August this year, Acting Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy Admiral Alexander Moiseyev was quoted as saying by media reports.

The cruiser will be equipped with new weapon systems, including hypersonic Tsirkon missiles and new radio-technical equipment, said Moiseyev.

He pointed out that the ship has been completely modernized and the trials are expected to be completed in 2025.

The Project 1144.2 multipurpose battle cruiser Admiral Nakhimov is the largest surface vessel in the Russian Navy with a displacement of more than 25,000 tons. It is designed to destroy large surface targets and provide comprehensive air and anti-submarine defense. Enditem
