LILONGWE, June 20 (Xinhua) -- Malawian President Lazarus Chakwera has appointed Michael Usi, minister of natural resources and climate change, as the country's new vice president, following the death of Vice President Saulos Chilima in a plane crash on June 10.
Chakwera made the announcement on Thursday, seven working days after the position became vacant, as dictated by Malawi's constitution.
Usi, a renowned comedian and actor, was the vice president of the United Transformation Movement (UTM), whose president was Saulos Chilima.
The Office of the President and Cabinet has since announced that the inauguration of the new vice president will be held Friday afternoon local time. Enditem
