JAKARTA, June 21 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia has announced that it is ready to host rounds of the Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC) and MotoGP this year in Mandalika in the eastern province of West Nusa Tenggara.

The competition for ARRC at the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit will take place from July 26 to 28, while the MotoGP race will be held on September 27 and 28.

Indonesia's State Enterprises Minister Erick Thohir said on Friday that the two events are not just world-class motorbike racing events, but also a big opportunity for sports tourism in Indonesia, which has the potential to become a significant source of foreign exchange revenues.

"We have the opportunity to attract global attention while providing maximum benefits for the local community and economy, as well as strengthening Mandalika's position as 'The Ultimate Lifestyle Sportstainment Destination'," said the minister, adding that the ministry fully supports the two competitions.

Mandalika, a special economic zone in the southern part of Lombok, has a 2.68-mile (4.3 km) circuit featuring 17 corners that showcase various tourism spots.

The southeast Asian country has hosted several international events in the region to advance tourism and spur economic growth. Enditem
