ISLAMABAD, July 22 (Xinhua) -- The Pakistani military said on Monday that it had conducted over 22,000 operations in 2024, killing 398 terrorists in different areas of the South Asian country.
Ahmad Sharif, Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of the Pakistan Army, told a press conference in garrison city of Rawalpindi that intelligence-based operations had a clear target to eliminate terrorism in the country.
The director general said that a total of 398 terrorists were killed and 137 soldiers were martyred in the operations, while the arrested militants are facing trials in 22 courts dedicated to proceedings against terrorists.
According to the official, the country conducted around 112 operations on average each day in 2024, adding that majority of the anti-terrorist campaigns were held in the northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the southwestern Balochistan provinces.
The official added that the operations are part of a comprehensive effort against terrorism launched by the government of Pakistan.
The director general highlighted that there is an entire spectrum of illegal activities in the country, including businesses that are facilitating terrorism, which will be dealt with in the coming days. Enditem
