PARIS, July 24 (Xinhua) -- A research conducted in 18 countries and regions worldwide shows basketball is more popular than four years ago, the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) announced on Wednesday.
The Nielsen Fan Insights survey reported that basketball is the second most popular sports globally behind football, up from 68% in 2019 to 74% in 2023.
Interest in basketball is projected at 69%, with over 3.3 billion fans aged between 16 and 69, and four out of five people below the age of 30 interested in basketball, according to the report.
Countries such as Indonesia, the Philippines, China, and the United Arab Emirates were all particularly high for this age group, alongside European markets such as Spain, Germany, and Britain, FIBA announced.
FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis said: "This landmark research, done after each FIBA Basketball World Cup since 2019, offers extremely valuable insights into the state of basketball globally." Enditem
