Philippines' Marcos names acting trade secretary

MANILA, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- Philippine President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos has appointed Ma. Cristina Aldeguer-Roque as the acting secretary of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) said Friday.

The appointment came after the resignation of trade chief Alfredo Pascual, which is effective on Friday.

In appointing Roque, the PCO said Marcos stressed the importance of the DTI and the need for capable leadership.

"The DTI plays a pivotal role in our nation's economic growth, particularly in supporting MSMEs (micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises)," the PCO said.

The office said Marcos "noted Roque's dedication and leadership in the MSME sector make her an excellent choice."

Prior to being appointed as acting trade chief, Roque served as the DTI undersecretary for MSME development group. Enditem
