PARIS, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- Spaniard Jordan Alejandro Diaz Fortun continued his meteoric rise by clinching the men's triple jump gold at the Paris Olympics on Friday.

The 23-year-old, who announced himself on the international stage by securing the European title in June, won with a distance of 17.86 meters at Stade de France.

Portugal's Pedro Pichardo claimed silver, and Italy's Andy Diaz took bronze.

"I did a great first jump. It was incredible," Diaz Fortun said. "I came to compete and go for the gold medal, and the work has paid off. This medal is for my coach, my manager, my parents."

Cuba-born Diaz said he had no regrets about representing his adopted country.

"I hope you enjoy this medal as much as I am going to enjoy it," he added. Enditem
