TOKYO -- An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.8 on Saturday jolted southern Sea of Okhotsk near the coast of Hokkaido, Japan, the country's weather agency said.

SYDNEY -- Former Australian Prime Minister Paul Keating accused the Albanese government of bending to the will of the United States over AUKUS, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) reported on Saturday.
Keating said in a TV program that AUKUS is really about, in American terms, the military control of Australia.

ISLAMABAD -- At least three soldiers and four terrorists were killed in fire exchanges on Friday in Khyber district of Pakistan's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, said the Pakistani military.

COLOMBO -- Sri Lanka's Department of Wildlife Conservation will conduct a countrywide census on wild elephants on August 17, 18 and 19, state media reported on Saturday quoting an official.
