WELLINGTON, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- New Zealand's national population estimates was 5,338,500 on June 30, the statistics department Stats NZ said on Monday.
There were 2,681,700 females and 2,656,900 males, and the median age of females and males was 39 and 37.2 years respectively, Stats NZ said.
New Zealand's population grew by 1.8 percent during the year ended June 2024, with an estimated natural increase -- births minus deaths -- of 20,300, or 22 percent of total growth, it said.
The estimated net migration, or migrant arrivals minus migrant departures, was 73,300, which made up 78 percent of total growth, in the year ended June 2024, Stats NZ said.
The total fertility rate was 1.53 births per woman in the year ended June 2024, down from 1.6 compared with the year ended June 2023, statistics show.
New Zealand's infant mortality rate was 4.95 deaths per 1,000 live births, up from 3.55 per 1,000, it said. Enditem
