DHAKA, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) -- Bangladesh's inflation eased slightly in August, but remained at double-digit levels for the second consecutive month as consumer prices persistently stayed high.
Bangladesh's inflation decreased to 10.49 percent in August from 11.66 percent in July, according to the latest data from the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics.
Food inflation eased slightly to 11.36 percent in August from 14.10 percent in the previous month.
Inflation for non-food items edged up to 9.74 percent in August from 9.68 percent in July, the data showed.
The country's average inflation, however, surged to 9.73 percent in the fiscal year 2023-24 (July 2023-June 2024), much higher than the budgetary target of 7.5 percent.
In the previous 2022-23 fiscal year, overall inflation was 9.02 percent.
On June 30, the Bangladeshi parliament passed a record 7.97-trillion-taka (68 billion U.S. dollars) national budget for the 2024-25 fiscal year. Inflation rate announced at 6.5 percent for the 2024-25 fiscal year in the budget has been revised to 6 percent. Enditem
