RIO DE JANEIRO, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) -- Brazil manager Dorival Junior has vowed to prioritize substance over style as his team seeks to continue its recovery in South America's World Cup qualifying group.
The five-time world champions snapped a four-game winless run in qualifiers with a 1-0 defeat of Ecuador on Friday and another victory against Paraguay on Tuesday will consolidate their place in the group's automatic qualification places.
"There's no point creating false expectations with fans," Dorival told a news conference in Asuncion on Monday. "We are not going to offer a spectacle from one day to the next."
Dorival has overseen four wins, four draws and a loss since replacing Fernando Diniz as Brazil's national team boss in January.
The 62-year-old said he was encouraged by the team's performance against Ecuador in the southern Brazilian city of Curitiba.
"I'm confident we will soon find our way," he said. "I perceive an evolution as a team, not in terms of a spectacle. As a team we are finding the way."
Paraguay are currently seventh in the 10-team South American qualifying group with just one win in seven outings. Enditem
