RIYADH, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) -- The third edition of the Global Artificial Intelligence Summit (GAIN) kicked off in Riyadh on Tuesday to drive AI adoption and ensure the strategic use of related technologies worldwide.

"This year, we are raising the bar, pushing AI boundaries further and higher for the good of humanity," said Abdullah bin Sharaf Al-Ghamdi, president of the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA), in the opening remarks.

The SDAIA president said AI presents ethical dilemmas and crucial challenges threatening economic and social development internationally.

He noted that the solution to the challenges is unity, and the world should navigate through collaboration.

Under the theme of "Leveraging AI for the betterment of humanity," the three-day summit focused on eight areas, addressing the role of governments in harnessing AI's potential, the generative AI, the roles of ethics and governance in safeguarding AI development, hardware innovation, and AI applications in industries and urban life.

According to the SDAIA, over 450 AI experts, policymakers and entrepreneurs will join talks, interviews, discussions and debates at the summit.

On Monday, the SDAIA released the State of AI in Saudi Arabia report, providing a snapshot of AI progress in Saudi Arabia. According to the report, the contribution from AI is estimated to reach 12 percent of the country's GDP by 2030. Enditem
