ULAN BATOR, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- Mongolia's foreign trade turnover saw a notable increase of 13.6 percent year on year, reaching 18.1 billion U.S. dollars in the first eight months of 2024, according to data released by the National Statistics Office (NSO) on Monday.
The Asian country recorded a trade surplus of 3.1 billion dollars, largely driven by a significant rise in exports of mining products. The NSO attributed this surplus to the strong performance in the export of key commodities such as coal and copper.
Mining products comprised around 90 percent of Mongolia's total exports during the January-August period, highlighting the critical role of the mining sector in the nation's economy.
China continued to be Mongolia's largest trading partner, serving as the primary destination for its exports and a major source of its imports. In this period, China accounted for 91.9 percent of Mongolia's exports and 40.2 percent of its imports.
Throughout the aforementioned period, the landlocked country engaged in trade with 155 countries globally. Enditem
