KATHMANDU -- Floods and landslides triggered by incessant rainfalls in Nepal have claimed at least 59 lives and injured 36 others by Saturday afternoon, police said.

A total of 44 others had gone missing in the disasters sparked by rainfalls since Friday evening, and the police had rescued 1,252 people from different parts of Nepal, said Dan Bahadur Karki, Nepali Police spokesperson. (Nepal-Disasters-Casualties)

ISLAMABAD -- A chartered helicopter crashed in Pakistan's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Saturday afternoon, killing six people on board while injuring ten others, police officials said.

The incident happened at about 1:00 p.m. local time when a helicopter chartered by a private oil exploration and production company Mari Petroleum crashed in the Shewa area of North Waziristan district of the province, District Police Officer Rokhanzeb Khan told Xinhua. (Pakistan-Helicopter Crash)

MANILA -- The Philippines recorded 354 rabies cases and deaths from January to Sept. 14 this year, a 23 percent increase from the 287 cases tallied in the same period last year, according to data from the Philippines' Department of Health (DOH).

"All confirmed rabies cases are fatal," the agency said Friday, adding that this year's number "may still vary with incoming reports." (Philippines-Rabies)

TOKYO -- Japan's junior ruling coalition partner Komeito officially endorsed Keiichi Ishii as the party's new chief at its convention on Saturday, marking the party's first leadership change in 15 years.
