ISTANBUL, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) -- A fire erupted on a cargo ship in the Marmara Sea off Türkiye's Istanbul on Thursday, resulting in the deaths of two sailors, local media reported.

The vessel, FG Sevil, was traveling from Türkiye's northwestern province of Yalova to Bulgaria when it caught fire in the engine room. Firefighting teams from the Coast Guard were promptly dispatched to the scene, according to Turkish broadcaster NTV.

Despite the swift intervention of fire brigade teams, two Turkish sailors trapped in the engine room lost their lives. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

According to VesselFinder, an online vessel tracking platform, the FG Sevil is a 103-meter-long ship registered under the flag of Panama. Enditem
