BERLIN, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- After three Free Democratic Party (FDP) ministers departed from the German cabinet over disputes within the ruling coalition, President Frank-Walter Steinmeier announced new ministers for the finance and justice ministries on Thursday.
Steinmeier appointed Joerg Kukies, state secretary at the Federal Chancellery, as the new finance minister, while Volker Wissing, currently minister for digital and transport, will leave the FDP and take on the role of justice minister.
Meanwhile, he officially dismissed Finance Minister Christian Lindner and two other FDP ministers following failed negotiations within the ruling coalition.
After Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced the decision to remove Lindner from the cabinet on Wednesday evening, Justice Minister Marco Buschmann and Education Minister Bettina Stark-Watzinger also left the government. The dismissals came after days of talks aimed at resolving differences over next year's budget and other economic issues.
The FDP's decision ended the coalition of the Social Democratic Party (SPD), the Greens, and the FDP. However, Scholz called his decision to sack Finance Minister Lindner a necessary move to prevent damage to the country.
In response, Lindner stated his opposition to Scholz's proposal to suspend the debt brake, noting that doing so would have violated his oath of office. Enditem
