BUCHAREST, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- Romanian parties including the Social Democratic Party (PSD), the National Liberal Party, the Save Romania Union, the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania as well as the parliamentary group of national minorities have pledged to form a pro-European majority government.

The commitment, announced on Tuesday evening, emphasized collaboration on governance reforms and accelerated implementation of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. It also included potential support for a joint presidential candidate in 2025.

Moreover, the parties planned to create a joint committee for drafting a governance program focused on reducing bureaucracy, streamlining public spending and increasing institutional trust.

Romania's political landscape, marked by a center-left PSD victory in recent parliamentary elections and the rise of ultranationalist factions, necessitates a cohesive pro-European government, party leaders have said.

The country's top court annulled the presidential vote on Friday and said the entire process would need to be re-run.

The outgoing president, Klaus Iohannis, will stay on until a new president is sworn in. Enditem
