JAKARTA, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- Apple has agreed to invest 1 billion U.S. dollars in Indonesia to gain market access for its latest iPhone 16 model in the world's fourth most populous nation, a minister said on Wednesday.
Indonesian Minister of Investment Rosan Roeslani said that intensive communication with Apple is going on through messaging applications, focusing on the proposed investment model and partnerships with sales vendors in Indonesia.
"These discussions are just to fine-tune the specifics," he said.
He noted that Apple initially planned to begin its investment in 2026, but the government urged the company to start earlier.
"Apple requested to commence its investment in 2026, but we are pushing for it to start in 2025," he said.
It was previously reported that Apple was not allowed to sell the iPhone 16 model in Indonesia because it had failed to meet the country's minimum local content requirements. Enditem
