ISLAMABAD, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that the country needed to further speed up efforts to eradicate polio, highlighting the use of technology to completely root out the crippling disease from Pakistan.

The country is working towards formulating a structured roster for visiting high-risk polio-affected areas during campaigns to ensure more effective results, the prime minister said during a meeting with the national polio eradication team on Monday.

Calling for greater collective efforts to address the issue, Sharif said that both national and international partners have been instrumental in advancing health initiatives in Pakistan and eradicating polio.

Earlier on Monday, Pakistan reported one more polio case, increasing the total number of cases in the country this year to 68, according to the National Institute of Health.

Commenting on the importance of the security of polio workers, he said the safety of workers cannot be underestimated and the government has been taking all possible measures to ensure their security, adding that the role of local communities in making the initiative successful is also critical.
