HOUSTON, Jan. 1 (Xinhua) -- At least ten people died and 30 others were injured after a car plowed into New Year's Eve revelers in New Orleans, in the southern U.S. state of Louisiana, authorities said on Wednesday.

"There has been a mass casualty incident on Canal and Bourbon Street. Get yourself away from the area," NOLA Ready, the city's emergency preparedness campaign said in a post on social media platform X.

New Orleans police said they were responding to the incident, which occurred in the popular French Quarter.

The incident occurred just hours before the city is expected to host The Sugar Bowl, an annual American college football bowl game played in the biggest city of Louisiana dating from 1935, between the University of Georgia and Notre Dame. Enditem
