SYDNEY, Jan. 2 (Xinhua) -- An investigation was underway on Thursday into the circumstances leading up to the death of a woman after she was found critically injured in western Sydney.

Emergency services were called to a high-rise unit block in River Road, Parramatta in western Sydney, about 1:40 a.m., after a woman was found on the street suffering multiple injuries, the Australian state of New South Wales (NSW) Police said.

Local police officers commenced cardiopulmonary resuscitation, but the woman was unable to be revived and died at the scene. She was yet to be formally identified.

A crime scene was established and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident commenced, with police speaking with a number of people at the unit block, NSW Police said.

Police have been told that the woman, believed to be aged 39, fell from the balcony of her seventh-floor unit.

Detectives have arrested a 40-year-old man whom police alleged was the woman's partner. Enditem
