SEOUL, Jan. 3 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's joint investigation unit on Friday summoned chief of the presidential security service over the obstruction of President Yoon Suk-yeol's arrest.

An official with the investigation unit, consisting of the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO), National Office of Investigation (NOI) and the defense ministry's investigation headquarters, told reporters that the unit subpoenaed chief and vice chief of the presidential security service to appear for questioning on Saturday.

The official noted that the security chief and vice chief were booked on charges of obstructing the execution of a warrant to arrest Yoon, which was issued by a Seoul court on Tuesday.

A group of CIO investigators and police officers attempted to arrest Yoon in the presidential residence in central Seoul earlier in the day, but they confronted hundreds of security service agents and soldiers for about five and a half hours.

Yoon, who was named by investigative agencies as a suspected ringleader on insurrection charge, declared a martial law on the night of Dec. 3 last year but it was revoked by the National Assembly hours later.

An impeachment motion against Yoon was passed by the National Assembly on Dec. 14 and delivered to the constitutional court to deliberate it for up to 180 days, during which Yoon's presidential power is suspended. Enditem
