LONDON, Feb. 4 (Xinhua) -- One of the biggest transfers in the Premier League on deadline day was also one of the biggest as Manchester City signed former FC Barcelona youngster Nico Gonzalez on a four and a half year contract from Porto for 60 million euros (62 million US dollars).
The move means Manchester City have been by far the biggest movers in the transfer market after also signing forward Omar Marmoush from Eintracht Frankfurt, along with defenders Vitor Reis and Abdukodir Khusanov from Palmeiras and Lens, taking the club's total spend to around 214 million US dollars.
"This is the perfect opportunity for me at this stage of my career. I am 23 and I want to test myself in England. There's no better club than Manchester City for me to do that. Look at the squad they have here, it's unbelievable. There isn't a footballer in the world who would not want to be part of this setup," said Gonzalez, who began his career in the FC Barcelona youth system.
"I know the reputation Pep (Guardiola) has and I cannot wait to work with him. In fact, I am honored he wants me to play in his team," said the midfielder.
Other late business on deadline day saw Everton sign midfielder Carlo Alcaraz on loan from Flamengo until the end of the season, while Tottenham signed France Under-21 forward, Mathys Tel on loan from Bayern Munich and Aston Villa made a double loan swoop for Paris Saint Germain forward Marcos Asensio and Chelsea defender Axel Disasi.
