BISHKEK, March 5 (Xinhua) -- Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan intend to raise bilateral trade to 500 million U.S. dollars by 2030, the Kyrgyz government's press service said on Tuesday.

The statement was made after visiting Kyrgyz Prime Minister Adylbek Kasymaliyev met with Tajik Prime Minister Kokhir Rasulzoda in Dushanbe to discuss the prospects of strengthening trade and economic relations.

Their talks also emphasized energy cooperation, particularly on expediting the CASA-1000 project, which aims to transfer 1,300 megawatts (MW) of surplus electricity from Central Asia to South Asia through the development of new energy infrastructure, according to the press service.

The Kyrgyz side reaffirmed its readiness to act as a link for delivering Tajik products to the Eurasian Economic Union market, it said.

The two sides also stressed the need to resume direct flights between their two countries. Enditem
