ANKARA, March 10 (Xinhua) -- A rockfall at a high-speed train construction site in the Kocasinan district of Türkiye's central Kayseri province killed a worker and injured another, Provincial Governor Gokmen Cicek said Monday.
According to Cicek, seven workers were present at the time of the accident, and an excavator was operating on-site.
When large rocks fell from above, five workers managed to escape, while one was struck directly, resulting in his immediate death, the governor added.
He noted that another injured worker had been taken to the hospital.
"This was not a collapse but an incident caused by falling rock fragments. Unfortunately, one of our workers lost his life due to a direct impact on his head. Our injured worker has fractures in his legs but is in stable condition," Cicek said.
Authorities have taken the necessary precautions following the incident, with the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority arriving promptly to assist, he noted, assuring that further safety measures would be implemented to prevent similar accidents. Enditem
