DAMASCUS -- At least 1,383 civilians have been killed in the recent wave of violence in Syria's coastal region, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported Wednesday.
The violence erupted on March 6, triggered by coordinated attacks by armed groups loyal to former President Bashar al-Assad on security forces in the coastal Latakia province, which killed at least 16 security personnel, according to Syria's Defense Ministry. (Syria-Violence-Civilian Deaths)

DOHA -- Arab foreign ministers met with U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff in Doha on Wednesday to discuss the newly approved Arab-backed Gaza reconstruction plan.
Foreign ministers from Qatar, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and the United Arab Emirates, along with the secretary-general of the Palestine Liberation Organization's executive committee, presented the reconstruction plan to Witkoff, agreeing with the U.S. envoy to continue consultations and coordination on this plan as a basis for the reconstruction efforts in Gaza, according to a statement from Qatar's Foreign Ministry. TEHRAN -- Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi received here on Wednesday a letter from U.S. President Donald Trump on nuclear negotiations, Iran's semi-official Fars news agency reported.
The letter, which reportedly calls for negotiations on Tehran's nuclear program, was handed over to Araghchi by Anwar Gargash, diplomatic advisor to the president of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), in the presence of some other Iranian officials, Fars reported.
