KABUL, March 17 (Xinhua) -- The spokesman for the Ministry of Interior Affairs of the Afghan interim government has dismissed reports on the resignation of Sarajuddin Haqqani, the acting minister of interior affairs, as baseless, calling on media outlets to avoid reporting false news.

"The reports on the resignation of esteemed Khalifa Sarajuddin Haqqani, the acting minister for interior affairs, is false and I utterly reject it," Abdul Mateen Qani was quoted by Radio and Television of Afghanistan as saying on Monday.

Serving as acting minister for interior affairs since the Taliban took power in August 2021, Haqqani has been regarded as a powerful man in the Afghan interim government.

Earlier this month, Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesman of the interim government, said Haqqani had returned to Kabul after receiving medical treatment outside the country. Enditem
