LUSAKA, April 1 (Xinhua) -- A meeting of the least developed countries (LDCs) opened here Tuesday to discuss sustainable development for the world's most vulnerable nations.

The three-day third edition of the LDC Future Forum has brought together government officials and experts from 44 LDCs. Held under the theme "Enhancing Resilience: Innovative Solutions for Strengthening LDCs Against Systemic Shocks," the meeting focuses on addressing climate change, environmental degradation, recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, and building resilience against future shocks for risk-informed sustainable development.

UN Under-Secretary-General Rabab Fatima said the meeting offers a unique opportunity to rally global support for the world's most vulnerable countries as they address the challenges.

"By uniting stakeholders from across sectors, this forum aims to create actionable pathways for enhancing LDCs' resilience against systemic shocks," she addressed the meeting's opening ceremony.

Zambian Minister of Finance and National Planning Situmbeko Musokotwane said the meeting is a call to action for the global community to support LDCs in achieving their aspirations.

He said that by fostering innovation, collaboration, and sustainable financing, LDCs could build resilient economies capable of withstanding systemic shocks and creating opportunities for all.

According to a statement, the forum will feature a high-level dialogue focusing on the critical need for financing to bolster LDCs' resilience against various challenges, as they often struggle with limited domestic resources that hinder their ability to weather economic downturns, natural disasters, and health emergencies.
