The Shenzhen Component Index opened at 10,384.95 points, down 128.17 points, or 1.22 percent.

The Hang Seng Index opened at 22,638.21 points, down 564.32 points, or 2.43 percent.

The S&P/ASX 200 index opened at 7,839.30 points, down 95.20 points, or 1.20 percent.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average opened at 35,041.67 points, down 684.20 points, or 1.92 percent.

The Straits Times Index opened at 3,907.62 points, down 46.59 points, or 1.18 percent.

The Korea Composite Stock Price Index opened at 2,437.43 points, down 68.43 points, or 2.73 percent.
