COLOMBO, April 13 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka has recorded an increase in both tourism revenue and remittances, two major sources of foreign exchange earnings for the country, in the first quarter of 2025, according to latest data from the central bank.
From January to March 2025, workers' remittances reached over 1.8 billion U.S. dollars, compared to over 1.5 billion dollars in the same period in 2024.
In total, Sri Lanka received over 6.57 billion dollars in remittances throughout 2024, up 10.1 percent year-on-year.
In the first quarter this year, Sri Lanka's earnings from tourism reached over 1.1 billion dollars, up 9.4 percent year-on-year.
Tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka in the first quarter of 2025 reached over 722,000, with a 13.6 percent year-on-year increase. Enditem
