COLOMBO, April 14 (Xinhua) -- One person was killed while around 20 others were injured when three vehicles collided with each other in Trincomalee district in Sri Lanka's Eastern Province on Monday, police said.
The accident involved a passenger bus, a lorry and a double cab. The driver of the bus died at the scene, while the injured were transported to nearby regional hospitals for treatment.
Police said the crash was caused by reckless driving on the part of the bus driver.
Road accidents are frequent in Sri Lanka, with buses often involved, official data showed.
A total of 592 Sri Lankans have died in 565 fatal road accidents as of April 2 this year, police said earlier, adding that April tends to record a higher number of fatal road accidents due to multiple nationwide celebrations. Enditem
