MANILA -- Eight Filipino seafarers who were detained for violating Malaysian immigration laws and regulations have been freed, the Philippines' Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said Friday.

TOKYO -- An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5 struck Japan's Nagano Prefecture on Friday night, with no tsunami threat, according to the country's weather agency.
