CSL Roundup: Shanghai Shenhua maintains unbeaten streak

BEIJING, April 20 (Xinhua) -- Shanghai Shenhua and Chengdu Rongcheng both delivered dominant performances over the weekend as the 2025 Chinese Super League (CSL) wrapped up its eighth round on Sunday.

In early fixtures on Saturday, Shenhua maintained its unbeaten streak with a 2-0 victory over Wuhan Three Towns. This win propelled it to the top of the league standings, with six wins and two draws from eight matches.

Midfielder Joao Teixeira played a pivotal role in the match, scoring the opening goal and controlling the tempo in midfield. Defender Li Lei was instrumental in neutralizing Wuhan's attacking threats, ensuring a clean sheet for Shenhua.

In a high-scoring affair, Beijing Guoan showcased its offensive prowess in a 6-1 thrashing of Shandong Taishan. Forward Fabio Abreu scored twice, in the 15th and 52nd minutes. Midfielder Zhang Xizhe also contributed a goal in injury time, capping off a dominant performance by Beijing.

Chengdu Rongcheng delivered a commanding performance on Sunday, defeating Shanghai Port 3-1. Chengdu's Romulo opened the scoring in the ninth minute, followed by Wei Shihao's goal in the 21st.

Henan FC secured a 3-1 victory over Qingdao Hainiu. After Jin Yonghao's header in the 25th minute, Henan mounted a strong comeback in the second half, with Lucas Maia, Zhong Yihao and Frank Acheampong scoring the goals.

Elsewhere, Changchun Yatai and Yunnan Yukun played to a goalless draw, sharing the spoils in a match lacking scoring opportunities. Meizhou Hakka showcased its offensive strength in a decisive 3-0 win over Shenzhen Peng City. Tianjin Jinmen Tiger earned a 2-0 home win over Zhejiang FC. Qingdao West Coast continued its strong form with a 2-0 win over Dalian Yingbo.

The next round of matches is scheduled for April 25, with Beijing Guoan hosting Henan FC and Yunnan Yukun facing Shanghai Port. Enditem
